Available for a limited time, Jussi Björling – The Complete RCA Album Collection showcases the acclaimed tenor’s complete RCA discography for the first time, in a specially priced 14-CD box set. This essential collection features newly remastered CDs packaged in reproductions of the original LP sleeves, accompanied by a comprehensive discography and introduction by singing expert Jürgen Kesting. Of special note is the inclusion of 23 tracks appearing on CD for the first time by RCA Red Seal.
Jussi Björling made his professional operatic debut in 1930 at Stockholm’s Royal Swedish Opera and made his American concert debut at Carnegie Hall in 1937. The following year, he made his first appearance at the Metropolitan Opera and went on to become one of the Met’s principal singers during the 1940s and 1950s. Known as the “Swedish Caruso”(LIFE magazine 1939), he was labeled one of the “Three Original Tenors” with Caruso and Gigli (Caruso’s widow calling him the only one worthy of wearing her husband’s mantle). He died of heart-related causes in 1960 at age 49.
