Deutsche Grammophon is proud to celebrate its 111th birthday this year (December 6th, to be exact) and as part of the celebration will release a host of products designed to celebrate its rich history from the perspectives of both artistry and technology. Since its founding in 1898, Deutsche Grammophon has strived to be the leader in the classical music recording industry offering the most technologically advanced, highest quality recordings of the newest, brightest stars, as well as prominent, well-established artists. DG’s 111 celebration commemorates the label’s history (it is Universal Music Group’s oldest active label) and forward-thinking ideology (DG introduced the first commercial classical CD in 1983).
President Michael Lang said, “Deutsche Grammophon remains the preeminent classical recording company presenting the finest in recorded music by the best artists—while anticipating and fulfilling the evolving interests of its old and new audiences. Deutsche Grammophon is poised for a vibrant future as remarkable as its storied past.”
This unique collection of 55 CDs forms Deutsche Grammophon’s major release in its 111th-anniversary celebrations. The limited-edition boxed set gathers together many landmark recordings from the past to the present. Most of them appear complete, as originally programmed, in their original cover-art, and several include additional material.
